What began as a visual mark and collateral to celebrate the transportation bureau’s role as the clean-up crew during the Portland Rose Festival Parade turned into a summer-long campaign engaging the public on the investment to fix city streets.
We expanded the City’s “Fixing Our Streets” logomark into a collage illustration that integrates the city’s symbol—roses—and a wrench to represent the work it takes to fix city streets, and the beauty it yields.
Our approach was inspired by Portland’s tradition of utility covers that include roses—connecting public infrastructure with civic pride.
The illustration and messaging were applied to posters, stickers, t-shirts and truck decals used during the Rose Festival Parade and summer events.
A highlight from this campaign was the response from staff who were proud to wear and share the campaign assets.
Special thanks to our thoughtful and enthusiastic project partners.
